As Abby said, the whole thing sounds dicey. Including the OP. I wonder if either of them (Steve or the OP) are capable of actually bonding to other people. I'd sure run a battery of tests myself, but fortunately, their lives are theirs to make. And Break. And sometimes the only way we learn the lesson is by going down the hapless road of hard experience, so perhaps that is how they will learn if they are soul mates or not.
